We have talked with Team Honda HRC following Ken Roczen’s crash in the 450 Main Event at the 2018 San Diego Supercross. From what the team has told us, Roczen said that he thought he may have gotten on the throttle too soon and caught the rut that was in the bowl turn, which is why the bike rocketed out from underneath him and into Cooper Webb. Roczen then fell into the rear-wheel of Webb’s Monster Energy/Knich/Yamaha Factory Racing motorcycle and injured his hand in the moving rear wheel.

Honda told us that Roczen underwent a very early evaluation at the Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit and a fractured metacarpal in his right hand was discovered. Roczen will have a full evaluation on Monday morning to see if this is the extent of the damage or it there is more than initially noticed, and then will set a recovery plan from there.
